Superweek's nineth day was greeted with heavy rains in the early hours of the day, promising to make the twisty Waukesha course very trecherous. Several riders fell while simply inspecting the eight turn course. To complicate matters, a disgruntled employee of the set up crew parked one of the large trucks used to carry crowd barriers and such, right on the finish line, and walked off - but not until after thowing the keys in the sewer first requiring organizers to arrange to have it towed away! For these reasons, racing started three hours late. The racing was exciting however. The winner of the Men's Cat. 4 race actually crashed while riding solo off the front, got his free lap, and motored on to victory. The Womens 1/2/3 field was the largest seen in Waukesha in quite a few years, and Rock Racing's Sterling Magnell actually competed in the Pro 1/2 event after suffering a horrendous crash the day before in Ripon, WI. Spencer Beamer ( DLP Racing ) of Knoxville, TN won the event in a stunning late solo attack, and Aussie Bernie Sulzberger won the $1,000 Ultimate Prime offered with just 4 laps remaining in the race.
