Riders were greeted by beautiful, summer like weather for the start of the 2009 racing season at the Washington Park Velodrome in Kenosha, WI. Opened in 1927 this the 82nd year of racing here. Great racing was demonstrated by all the racers to the thin, but knowledgeable crowd. Near the end of the evening, there was a crash involving a number of riders in turn 3, one of which was seriously hurt. He was quickly attended to and ultimately taken, via helicopter, to the nearby Level One trauma center - Froedert Hospital in Milwaukee. I present the photos of that transfer as a tribute to all the people who helped aid the fallen rider. From the EMTs that were at his side almost instantly, to all the riders and their support crews who quickly cleared the entire infield that became the helicopter landing zone: a big thank you for your sportsmanship and compassion for a fallen rider of this great sport.
