The Tour comes to it's final destination under beautiful sunny skies. Ten days of racing in eleven days have left the legs weary, but the spirit is still strong as the racers give it one more go.

Women's Pro 1/2:

It was a dream day for the Philadelphia based Team Verducci Breakaway who went 1 - 2 - 3 on the stage and put two on the final overall podium. With three laps to go in today's race, teammates Divina Summers and Jessie Maclean (Verducci Breakaway) rode away from the field, putting in enough of a gap that no one could bridge. Summers takes revenge for narrowly missing the win yesterday at Downer Ave by winning today. In the field sprint, Theresa Cliff-Ryan takes home third to sweep the stage by Team Verducci Breakaway.

Jessie Maclean wins the women's overall competition and prepares to have some fun with the champaign !

1. Jessie Maclean (Verducci Breakaway)
2. Devon Haskell (BH Cycles)
3. Theresa Cliff-Ryan (Verducci Breakaway)

Men's Pro 1/2

Team Geargrinder had a plan: to attack early, get away for the duration, and take the stage.

They implemented.

The field chased.

But could not match Team Geargrinder.

James Stemper takes the win!

Stage Results (unofficial):
1. James Stemper (Geargrinders)
2. Rob White (Geargrinders)
3. Pat Lemieux (Texas Roadhouse)

Also riding for Team Geargrinder, Chad Hartley retained the yellow leaders jersey and wins the overall title!

Champers!

Overall Results (unofficial)

1. Chad Hartley (Team Geargrinders)
2. Logan Garey (Team Rio Grande)
3. Adam Bergman (Texas Roadhouse)

All the rest of Sunday's gallery to be posted by Monday evening.

Tour of America's Dairyland

Stage 9
Downer Avenue Criterium

The Downer Avenue Criterium is a classic. The locals embrace it as a race of their own. Area racers regard it as a premier event that must be ridden. Visiting competitors have named it as one of the top criteriums in the country. It has an ambience that is unique: from the crowd's embrace, the odd shaped triangular course, the traditional and almost required finish well after sunset, all these make this a race that should be experienced by all. Those riders fortunate enough to win here mark it as one of the highlights of their career.

Women Pro 1/2

While those back in the pack picked up primes valued up to as high as $250 a shot, three riders,
Toni Bradshaw, Davina Summers, and Kristin Wentworth, escaped up the road to battle for the win.

Not liking her odds in the sprint, Wentworth made a go for it during the final few laps, but was quickly reeled back in.

In the final throw down, it was Summers vs Wentworth with Summers (on the left) coming up with the win!

But wait! Look again!

Wentworth came from behind to win by centimeters, 4/1000 th of a second!!

Ahhhh, the taste of victory was never so sweet.

1. Kristin Wentworth (Team Kenda)
2. Davina Summers (Verducci Breakaway)
3. Toni Bradshaw (Lipsmackers)

Men Pro 1/2

How do you boil down 90 minutes of full attack racing in just a few words? Well, since a photo is worth a thousand words ...

Five riders escape late in the race including Matt Busche and overall leader Chad Hartley.

Day turns to night and the streets get dark (this is Downer Ave you know)

Clouds turn to rain as Chad Hartley wins in Downer Avenue darkness!

1. Chad Hartley (Geargrinders)
2. Matt Busche (IS Corp)
3. Yosvany Falcon (FL Champion Porche)

Ahhhh ... life is good.

But wait! He also won the Bens Cyclery Super Prime worth $5,600 !!

This is SWEET !

Tour of America's Dairyland

Stage 8
Greenbush Road Race

The Tour of America's Dairlyland hills is what this series should be called after more than one rider has been heard saying "It sure is hilly in Wisconsin!".This 10 mile cicruit through parts of the Northern Kettle Moraine State Forest was no exception, it had two challenging climbing sections with some rollers thrown in for good measure. On the positive side, the shade provided by the forest trees provided a much appreciated break from the relentless sun riders have been subjected to this week.

In the Women's Pro 1/2/3 race, despite all the climbing done ...

... it came down to a sprint for the line with Devon Haskell (BH Cycles) beating Amanda Miller (Team Lip Smacker) and Jessie Maclean (Australia).
Devon Haskell has now closed to within one point of Maclean's overall jersey.

Rebecca Domange (CBD/Degani/Chatermason) nips Kristin Wentworth (Team Kenda) on the line for fourth after some spirited shoulder rubbing approaching the line.

In the Men's Pro 1/2 division, there were some new names on the roster today with a four man break going up the road late in the 80 mile event..Yosvany Falcon (Champion Porsche P/B Herbalife), Ryan DeWald (Battle Harley-Davidson), Sheldon Deeny (VMG/Felt), and Pat Lemieux (Texas Roadhouse) all gained the winning advantage with Falcon taking the final sprint to be today's champion.

Yesterday's winner, and teammate of today's winner Frank Travieso (Champion Porsche P/b Herbalife), formally from Cuba, beat Adam Bergman (Texas Roadhouse) in the field sprint for fifth place.

Chad Hartley (Gear Grinder) still wear's the leader's jersey with 134 pts, Logan Garey (Team Rio Grande), not pictured, 132 points, and Adam Bergman (Texas Roadhouse) with 123.

The Tour continues Saturday with the much anticipated Downer Avenue criterium on Milwaukee's fashionable east side. You won't want to miss it!!

Tour of America's Dairyland

Stage 7
Sheboygan Harbor Centre Criterium

There were no waves for surfing at Sheboygan's awesome Deland Beach, but we were racing in Sheboygan again, and it was good to be here.

In the Elite Women's race, eight riders escaped, lapping the field in short order. Although Jessie Maclean won the subsequent field sprint, it was Davina Summers who was today's winner. None of the top GC contenders were included in that group so the yellow jersey remains on Jessie Maclean.

In the Men's Pro 1/2 event, many tried to escape, but none succeeded on this fast rectangular coarse.

Fourth through the final turn, it was Adam Bergman (Texas Roadhouse) taking the win over Chad Hartley (Gear Grinder) and Logan Garey (Rio Grande).

The overall omnium competition is getting more exciting with each passing day. With three stages remaining, it is now Chad Hartley who wears the yellow leader's jersey followed by Logan Garey and Matt Busche.

Friday the Tour heads a few miles to the east, into the Kettle Moraine State Forest for the Greenbush Road Race which, with it's hilly profile, should prove to be one of the tougher races of the series.

Chow from Sheboygan.

Stage 6
Fond du Lac Cycling Grandprix

While not quite as hot as yesterday's road race here in Fond du Lac, it was still quite hot and muggy as well. One of those days where you'll do anything to cool off, even if it's just soaking your feet for a while.

(okay, so I took this one coming home from the FDL RR, but I think it still applies!)

Men's Pro 1/2: Due to the hot temperatures, USCF officials allowed handups on the back stretch and we were treated to some rare entertainment as riders tried to grab bottles at 30 mph! Frank Travieso (Champion Porsche P/b Herbalife) and Daniel Campbell (Panther/RGF Cycling p/b Felt Bicycles) escaped about halfway through, gaining a sufficient lead that they held to the end. A large chase group formed behind them which included Chad Hartley (Gear Grinders) and Matt Busche (IS Corp), but did not include current overall leader Frank Pipp (Bissel).
(Former yellow jersey Steve Tilford had left for other races in his home Kansas.)
Travieso took the final sprint winning the 2009 Fond du Lac Cycling Grand Prix and Matt Busche regained the lead and yellow jersey in the overall omnium. Being from Cuba, Travieso said that the heat really didn't bother him and although he gave that bottle of chocolate milk a funny look, it still went down smoothly and produced nice a big smile.

Pro men
1 Frank Travieso (Champion Porsche P/b Herbalife)

10 Chad Hartley (Team Geargrinder)

General classification - Pro men

2 Logan Garey (Team Rio Grande) 88
3 Chad Hartley (Gear Grinder) 87
4 Frank Pipp (Bissell) 85
5 Adam Bergman (Texas Roadhouse ) 73

Women's Pro 1/2: Aussie Jessie Maclean put the power to the pedals and lapped the women's field solo on the 0.6 mile circuit taking the win, seemingly with ease, Madeleine Puissant (BH USA) won the field sprint for second.. The overall leader's yellow jersey changed hands again leaving Devon Haskell and going back to Maclean..

Pro women
1 Jessie Maclean
2 Madeleine Puissant (BH USA)
3 Davina Summers
4 Theresa Cliff-Ryan (Verducci Breakaway)
5 Jacqueline Kurth (Team Kenda)

So, I'm asked: Did the Peloton-Cam show anything
of the crashes
that happened in the Waterloo Cat. 3 race?
(okay, it's not "in your face", but ... )

Update: Grafton is posted.

Still to come ASAP: Ripon, Waterloo, Manitowoc,
Finish Line, and videos.
(These days need to be longer.)

Tour of America's Dairyland
Stage 4
Manitowoc

A little quieter atmosphere here in Manitowoc, as it always is. Yet, there is a pretty decent sized crowd of venders and locals milling about in Washington Park under mostly cloudy skies with a light, cool breeze coming off Lake Michigan. It's been a few years since we've raced here, but it's good to be back.

In the Women's 1/2 race, it was all together at about 10 laps to go when 9 riders escaped up the road. None of the top ranked women in the overall were present, so they gained almost a half lap lead with Verducci Breakaway taking the honors, Davina Summers - first, Theresa Cliff Ryan - second.

In the field sprint, Jessie Mclean (Verducci Breakaway) came around leader Devon Haskell (BH Bicycles) with just a few meters to go ,overtaking the lead and the yellow jersey that goes with it.

In the Men's Pro 1/2 race it was prime after prime keeping the pace high. Although many tried to escape, none did and Adam Bergman (Texas Roadhouse) took the field sprint over Frank Pipp and Steve Tilford.

No changes to the overall in the men's competition, although Pipp did gain a few points over Tilford.

Look for a weekend wrapup on Monday when I attempt to catch up on all the past races that I still need to post!

Chow from Manitowoc.

Tour of America's Dairyland

Stage 3
Giro d' Grafton

Another exciting edition of the Giro d' Grafton was enjoyed
by a sizable crowd last night. The fast course and generous
primes including one for a thousand dollars had
racers riding at their limit.

A strong group of eight riders had escaped and gained a considerable lead. Although the offering of the $1,000 prime had the field close in on the break, it wasn't until just a few laps to go that they were caught. With the help of his strong Gear Grinder teammates, Chicago area rider Chad Hartley (Gear Grinders) came up with his biggest win of the season so far, by taking the field sprint, just nipping Minneapolis resident Paul Martin (Texas Roadhouse) right on the line.

1 Chad Hartley (Team Geargrinder)
2 Adam Bergman (Texas Roadhouse Cycling Team)
3 Ben King
4 Logan Garey (Team Rio Grande)
5 Frank Pipp (Bissell Pro Cycling)
6 Ryan Parnes (Webcor/Alto Velo)
7 no name
8 Cole House (BMC Racing Team-USAC)
9 Mike Sherer (Alderfer Bergen)
10 Stephen Tilford (Tradewind Energy / The Trek Stores)
11 Jordan Roessingh (Nova Cycle Sports Foundation Inc.)
12 Steve Scholzen (Nova Cycle Sports Foundation Inc.)
13 David Kay (Great Dane Velo Club)
14 Thacker Reeves (Matrix/RBM)
15 Ben Renkema (Kenda Pro)
16 Robert White (Team Geargrinder)
17 Nicholas Clayville (Hagens Berman Cycling)
18 Allen Krughoff (Team Rio Grande)
19 Braden Bingham (Team Rio Grande)
20 Chris Uberti
21 Corey Carlson
22 Ryan DeWald (Battley Harley-Davidson)
24 Daniel Lionberg (Team Rio Grande)
25 Dan Teaters (Team Beans & Barley)
26 Sam Bewley
27 Gregory Christian (Panther/RGF Cycling)
29 Matthew Busche (ISCorp Cycling Team)
30 Lang Reynolds (Hagens Berman)

In the overall, Frank Pipp overtook Tilford by just a few points.
Reading Tilford's blog entry indicates that there is some animosity over what
happened during that last lap which would explain the rather sour face seen
on Tilford's face during the podium presentation! Does Pipp have a blog?

1 Frank Pipp (Bissell Pro Cycling) 59 pts
2 Steve Tilford (Tradewinds Energy / The Trek Stores) 55
3 Matthew Busche (IS Corp) 46
4 Cheyne Hoag (Kelly Benefit Strategies) 45
5 Chad Hartley (Gear Grinder) 38

Going to have to leave shortly for Manitowoc,
so, looks like a mega-post is due for Sunday night
-LATE- to catch up on all the haps this weekend!
It will read like a book - don't miss it.

(I'll try to finish the bike-cam video from Bluemound,
you've got to see THAT)

Tour of America's Dairyland

Stage 2
Waterloo, WI
Home of TREK Bicycles

As reported last night, Jake Keough (Kelly Benefits) came around
Team Type 1's Aldo Ilesic at the very last moment to win
the fast and aggressive Pro 1/2 race. (interesting hand gesture!)

Last night's report:

Today, the large Pro 1/2 field attacked
this twisty 1.6 mile city circuit with abandon. Multiple
attacks were launched, but none were successful until
half way when James Stemper and another rider
gained about 30 seconds and held it. They looked good until the rain
started, then their lead slowly fell. With two laps to
go, they were caught. Through the final turn the pack was
pretty much intact, but Aldo Ilesic (TT1) opened a good lead to the line,
just starting to raise his arms in celebration, but WAIT ! ...
Jake Keough (KBS Medifast) came around him
10 meters out, and won the stage! Chad Hartley (Gear Grinder)
took 3rd. In the overall, Steve Tillford overtook Matt Busche and
now leads the omnium!

In the women's event, four riders escaped
early on and held it. In the end it was Jessie Maclean who
happily took the sprint for the win.

1. Jessie Maclean (Verducci Breakaway)
2. Kristin Wentworth (Team Kenda)
3. Toni Bradshaw (Team Lip Smacker)
4. Rachel Eichers Roessingh (Nova Cycle Sport)

In other races, there was a nasty crash in the Men's 4/5
right at the line with two laps to go.

Both riders walked away.

In the Men's catagory 3 race there were several mishaps.
One IS Corp rider went down on the back straight ...

and just after the finish, two riders got tangled,
sending on into the crowd barriers.

So the Tegaderm & Spandage Brigade has begun.
Don't worry guys, you won't be alone! We wish them the best.

Lastly this morning, props to race organizer Bill Ochowicz
who has done a great job in putting on a (so far)
excellent race series. THANKS BILL !

See you all in Grafton.

Stage 1
Bluemound's Race of the Future

GALLERY

New words added to rider's vocabulary today.

Words that will be used for years as today's riders tell
their stories of the inaugural Race of the Future
and perhaps the road course for the 2016 Chicago Olympics.

Just ask today's champions:

Matt Busche (IS Corp), who escaped from a break
of six on the last lap. Seen here on the last time
through the feed zone, he had a good 30 seconds
or more as he crossed the line on top of the
final climb up to Bluemound State Park.

Chocolate milk for all the winners?

Yum.

(I guess the second and third place riders
were too knackered to do their podiums)

For the women, it was a two up breakaway
featuring Amanda Miller (Lipsmackers) and
Devon Haskell (BH Cycles) seen here as they
began the relentless steep pitches of Pinnacle Rd.

Amanda Miller took the win, Devon Haskell second
Sarah Maguire third.

It's scary sharing the podium with a Mt. Horeb troll,
but the cold chocolate milk from Wisconsin
goes down easy!

1. Amanda Miller (Lipsmacker)
2. Devon Haskell (BH Cycles)
3. Sarah Maguire (Priority Health)

That's it direct from Mt Horeb (a busy place on a Thursday).

See you from Waterloo tomorrow.

(yes, the Ripon and Finish pix are coming too!)

= = = = = = = = = = =

Update:

Chiropractic pictures are all posted HERE,
Thanks for your patience !

Ripon and Finish Line pix up
next. Bear with me!

Hope to see some of you at Bluemound on Thursday!

Here's a preview of the course.
Not very entertaining, but just go give
a look at it. The uphills are STEEP.

. . . . . . . . . . .

WI STATE CRITERIUM CHAMPIONSHIPS
RIPON, WI

While rumor has it that it rained in Chicago for
their races, it was all blue skies in east central WI.

The course was altered slightly from last year's
leg breaker and almost all the races ended
in field sprints.

Yes, yes ... I will still post the Ripon pictures
once the ToAD is over!

LOL
